Different categories that overlap
Pen-Ray is the right answer for fluids — DEF, additives, coolant — and they've earned that position over decades. Their diagnostic and telematics offerings extend a successful catalog rather than serving as the company's center of gravity. ecuLink's center of gravity is the remote diagnostic platform itself.
Where each fits
If you already buy fluids from Pen-Ray and they offer a bundled diagnostic add-on, evaluate it against your specific use case — for some single-yard operations the bundle pricing wins. If you run a multi-yard fleet or an independent shop where the diagnostic platform is the core operational tool, ecuLink's purpose-built shape is what you want.
Multi-tenant fleet operations
The multi-yard fleet shape — senior tech at HQ, juniors at satellites, office staff with read-only access, audit logs that survive an insurance review — is the reference workflow ecuLink is built around. Per-session audit, RBAC with explicit role definitions, and a multi-user admin console are core product, not add-ons.
OEM software compatibility
ecuLink registers as a standard RP1210 / J2534 adapter, which means INSITE, DDDL, PTT, ESA, ET, JPRO, and Jaltest all see it as a normal adapter. There's no lock-in to a proprietary diagnostic frontend. The full verified list is on the compatibility page.
Honest caveats
We don't compete with Pen-Ray on fluids and aren't trying to. If you spot a comparison row that's out of date, email hello@eculink.io and we'll fix it.
